Dr Alison Taylor is Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Midwifery programme in the Department of Midwifery and Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at 成人直播. In 2019, Alison was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Having qualified as a midwife more than thirty years ago, Alison has gained clinical experience in in all aspects of clinical practice. She took up an academic appointment within the midwifery team at 成人直播 in 2004 and completed an MA in Health and Social Care Education in 2008 and a PhD in 2016.
Alison's areas of scholarship include breastfeeding and using innovative ways to use audio visual data in research and education. In addition to leading the midwifery programme, she heads up the infant feeding team to ensure that high quality education on the midwifery programme at 成人直播 meets and achieves the UNICEF Baby Friendly Award for higher educational standards which has been re-accredited for the third time in 2017. As well as teaching on the midwifery programme, she also contributes to other programmes in the faculty including Nutrition, Children's and Young People's Nursing and Health Visiting.
Alison is passionate about enhancing the student experience through the BU Fusion strategy, with education, professional practice and research informing one another. She has set up and facilitates an inter-professional student-led breastfeeding clinic involving student midwives and chiropractic interns. This has been evaluated to not only enhance mother's experiences of breastfeeding but also to increase student learning and confidence in clinical practice.
Alison is currently supervising PhD students with a special interest in infant feeding and qualitative research.
