How do you access eResources and BU resources away from Bournemouth?
When using eduroam at another organisation you will be connected to that organisation鈥檚 network, not 成人直播鈥檚. Therefore, to access some BU resources you will have to configure your computer to use a 鈥渞emote-access鈥 VPN service or use View.
Do you need to add @bournemouth.ac.uk after your username? Why?
When using eduroam everybody needs to use an @organisation suffix on their username 鈥 the bit after the @ is known as the realm. If you are from the 成人直播 the realm will be bournemouth.ac.uk. So if your BU username was ab1234, you would use [email protected] as your eduroam username.
The realm indicates to which organisation your credentials (username & password) should be sent to for verification. Without the realm, the eduroam system at each of the wouldn鈥檛 be able to verify your username and password and so wouldn鈥檛 be able to allow access to the Internet.

BU eduroam users visiting other organisations
There are three simple things to check if you鈥檙e having a problem with eduroam at another organisation:
- Check you are in an official eduroam location, that your computer can see a strong signal and that the wireless functionality on your computer is actually enabled.
- When you login to eduroam, check that you have remembered to append the suffix @bournemouth.ac.uk on to the end of your username, e.g. [email protected].
- The encryption type used at each organisation can vary, all the other settings are the same wherever you are. Check with the organisation you are visiting, then refer to this FAQ to make your computer match.
If you still have problems, you should try to contact the BU IT Service Desk initially 鈥 the organisation you are visiting has no obligation to help you, especially if they are particularly busy. However, most organisations will try and help you if they have the resources available to do so.
