BU Professor of Culture and Communication Candida Yates discussed the impact of emotion and 'casino culture' on politics and the leaders chosen by the public during her inaugural lecture.聽
The lecture took place at Bournemouth's Highcliff Marriott Hotel to a gathered audience of over 100 staff, students, family, friends and members of the public.
The lecture, titled 'Understanding the dynamics of political culture and the play of emotion and power' explored the role of emotion and risk in influencing how and why people vote.
Candida said: "You get quite a reactionary nature to politics and then afterwards it's rather like buyer's remorse. You think 'Gosh, why did I vote that way? Why did I take that decision?'"聽
"I think understanding that and perhaps exploring and holding lectures like this where you communicate with people from the local community and the public can help us to reflect perhaps more intelligently on the kind of processes that go on."聽
The lecture took place as part of the Fusion Inaugural Public Lecture series, and can be heard below.
