Successful placements and internships undertaken by Faculty of Management students last year were celebrated at the聽Employability Awards.
The awards, which recognised the contributions of over 60 BU students, is part of the Faculty鈥檚 Student Talent Employability Engagement Programme (STEEP), a careers-focused programme designed to develop employability skills through workshops and events with the aim of helping students secure a placement or graduate role.
Dr Philip Ryland, Associate Dean for Student Experience in the Faculty of Management and Chair of the Awards Panel said: 鈥淭hese awards celebrate the best performances from our students whilst on placement.鈥�
鈥淭he judging panel was enormously impressed by the quality of many of the submissions this year and narrowing down the field of submissions for each award has proved to be a difficult task. However, we managed it and we are really proud of your achievements."
Business Studies student, Oliver Lee, scooped three awards for his work at King鈥檚 Group, providers of international educational services. Oliver was awarded for Citizenship, Global Engagement and Outstanding Contribution.
Dr Philip Ryland commended Oliver's achievements, saying: 鈥淲e are all incredibly pleased and proud of his amazing achievement."
While each award recognised several winners for their successful placements, at the ceremony six overall winners were presented with awards in the six categories:聽
- Citizenship Award:聽Oliver Crookall, BSc (Hons) Sports Management with Price Waterhouse Cooper
- Outstanding Contribution Award:聽Lucy Cope, BA (Hons) Retail Management with The Walt Disney Company
- Financial Impact Award:聽Emily Elms, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Nutanix
- Global Engagement Award:聽Samantha Littlefield, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Uniwigs & Goodyard International Ltd
- Innovation Award:聽Kristaps Kazaks, BSc (Hons) Sports Management with AFC Bournemouth
- Service Excellence Award:聽Megan Foster, BA (Hons) Tourism Management with Placement Year International.
The awards took place at Key West on Bournemouth Pier and the students were presented with their awards by BU graduate Karl Bygrave, a Director at LUSH.
Global Engagement Overall Award winner, Samantha Littlefield said: 鈥淚 am thrilled that I was awarded the Global Engagement Award for my placement achievements, I really feel like my hard work in China at UniWigs has been recognised and I couldn't be more grateful. A big thank you for this award and to the awards team for hosting this event.鈥澛�
BA (Hons) Retail Management student Lucy Cope, reflected on her success, saying: 鈥淚 am extremely proud to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award for my placement at The Walt Disney Company, it has been incredible to see that the changes I have made are making a significant difference to the company and are now been adopted internationally. I was a small fish in a big pond, but I am so proud that I was able to make a difference in one of the biggest companies.鈥澛犅�
STEEP聽offers workshops that concentrate on the key skills needed when applying for work, inspiring, challenging and building confidence and industry knowledge in those who take part.
