The 成人直播 Business School (BUBS) held its annual Employability Awards on Wednesday 16聽December, celebrating the successful placement and internships聽undertaken by聽BUBS聽students.
The awards, first held in 2017, were hosted virtually this year in true 2020 style, and celebrated the achievements and contributions of over 60 BU students聽as part of the faculty鈥檚聽Student Talent Employability Engagement Programme (STEEP).聽The STEEP programme is designed to develop professional聽and聽employable聽skills聽through workshops and events, with the aim to聽prepare聽students聽for their future careers.
Dr Philip Ryland,聽Associate Dean for Student Experience at the 成人直播 Business School聽and Chair of聽the聽Awards Panel, said: 鈥淥ne of the great pleasures for me in leading the Business School鈥檚 Employability Awards has been the opportunity to read about the interesting, innovative and often highly challenging activities that our students have been involved with, or indeed have been leading on, whilst on placement.鈥
BU graduate聽and a Director at LUSH,聽Karl Bygrave,聽who congratulated聽and shared insights with the students, said:聽鈥淵ou鈥檝e gained聽experience聽that would take years to acquire, and you鈥檝e got it in a few months due to Covid-19.鈥
The virtual聽ceremony saw聽violinist聽Stefan聽Defilet聽play聽in the interludes and聽the comments section was lively聽and聽enthusiastic聽with applause for聽each other鈥檚 achievements. Citizenship Overall Award winner, Abbie Rendell, commented: 鈥淚 am very pleased and proud to receive the citizenship award. Congratulations to the other winners, it was a wonderful ceremony.鈥
Kieran聽Ferguson, Overall Award winner for Service Excellence, reflected: 鈥淚聽am truly grateful for the appreciation shown on behalf of 成人直播. The award is a testament to the positive ethos聽I聽tried to bring to my placement聽every day聽and I would like to thank everybody who motivated me along the way, from George leading the office, to my family at home.鈥澛
While each award recognised several winners for their successful placements, six overall winners were聽recognised聽with awards in the six categories.
The winners were:
- Citizenship Award:聽Abbie Rendell,聽BSc (Hons) Sports Development & Coaching Sciences with聽Danesfield聽C of E School聽
- Financial Impact Award:聽Benjamin Haskell,聽BA (Hons) Accounting & Finance with Savills Investment Management聽
- Global Engagement Award:聽Nora Aurora Laiho, BA (Hons) Business Studies聽with聽University of Stavanger聽
- Innovation Award:聽Emily Francis, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Microsoft聽
- Outstanding Contribution Award:聽Ben Jones, BSc (Hons) Marketing with IBM聽
- Service Excellence Award:聽Kieran Ferguson, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Drench
STEEP offers workshops that concentrate on the key skills needed when applying for work, inspiring, challenging and building confidence and industry knowledge in those who take part.
