Bike week is an annual event recognised internationally as an opportunity to celebrate and encourage cycling.聽To support this year鈥檚 - which runs from Monday 6听听鈥� 聽Sunday 12聽June we are聽promoting some of the fantastic things BU is doing to encourage students and staff to get on their bikes as well as highlighting other activities聽to get involved with locally and nationally.
Over the past couple of years, bike sales have soared and as a nation, we have fallen back in love with cycling; as a way to exercise, get out into nature, spend time with friends and family safely and聽explore the stunning areas we live in - often best seen at the slower pace of a bike. Take a look at our local cycle routes page for more information on events, local group rides and a few recommended routes which we think are worth the detour!
BU is聽committed to supporting active travel, and with staff and students still returning to campuses, why not continue that cycling behaviour and ride to BU as part of your commute? As well as helping the environment and tackling the global climate crisis, cycling has significant health and wellbeing benefits, as well as being one of the most cost-effective ways to get around.聽.
What鈥檚 on at 成人直播 during Bike Week?
Bike Safety Day 鈥� Wednesday 8聽June
To make sure your bike is in top condition and as secure as possible bring it along to the Dorset House bike compound at Talbot Campus on Wednesday 8聽June to be serviced by the Bike Doctor and tagged by the BU Neighbourhood Policing team. The BCP Road safety team will also be on campus to talk to cyclists about local concerns and take sign-ups for the next free Bikeability cycle course. See below for more details:
- The Bike Doctor - Offering students and staff a free bike maintenance service. No need to book, just bring your bike, a secure lock and your BU ID card
- 鈥� find out about road safety initiatives. The team will be issuing local cycle maps and bike lights
- 鈥� Like cycling proficiency but better! Bikeability for adults aims to help you become more confident on the roads and includes tips on cycle maintenance
- BU Neighbourhood Policing team will provide free bike security tagging to ensure your bike can be traced if the worst happened
- Gold Standard D鈥橪ocks 鈥� Did you know that the SUBU shops sell Gold Standard D鈥橪ocks at a discounted price of 拢10 usually 拢30 Recommended Retail Price.
Free hot drink voucher 鈥� Wednesday 8聽June
To thank staff and students for cycling to our sites, members of the BUBUG (成人直播 Bicycle User Group) will be out on Wednesday 8聽June between 8am聽鈥� 9:30am to hand out free hot drink vouchers to anyone arriving at the below bike compounds:
- Talbot Campus 鈥� Dorset House Compound
- Talbot Campus 鈥� Christchurch House Compound
- Studland House 鈥� Overground Compound
Free Beryl minutes
Staff and students can obtain a free 100 minute bundle to use on Beryl bikes or scooters. Simply download the Beryl app and create an account using your BU email address to claim yours. Then either:

Join the BU Bicycle User Group (BUBUG)
The BUBUG is a community group made up of students and staff across BU. Working together with BU Travel & Transport Team to promote and encourage cycling, support events, raise concerns, feed into consultations, discuss opportunities and聽have their say on local community issues. Membership is free 鈥�

What鈥檚 on in the community?
PEDALL inclusive cycling guided rides 2022
Making cycling accessible to all, PEDALL is聽hosting guided cycle rides around the New Forest throughout June and July. Tickets start from 拢10 and include the use of specialised bicycles if required. All riders and carers must attend an introduction session before booking on to a and know which bike they require. Each session will be 90 minutes long, from their base near Burley.
Sunset rides
Gentle rides along various seafront routes provide some of the best views in Dorset! Rides are largely traffic-free and low speed, so no one gets left behind! See below for more details:
