MFA has been implemented across several BU systems to help protect our staff and student accounts from being compromised. To enable this to work efficiently it’s important your MFA registration is complete and up to date.ÌýÌý

Updating your passwordÌý
Part of the new security measures requires all students to update their BU password every 365 days. It’s important you follow the BU password protocol when updating your password.
To update your password, visit the and click on the link that says ‘reset your BU password’.
Once in the external Microsoft password re-set/account recovery tool, after entering your BU email address and inputting the letters/numbers displayed, please choose the forgotten password option.ÌýÌý
Logged in to a BU machine? Ìý
You can also use the Ctl+Alt+Delete function and select ‘Change a password’.Ìý
BU’s password protocol requires your password to meet the following criteria:Ìý
- Be a minimum of 12 characters long (with no spaces)Ìý
- Be different to your last 12 passwordsÌý
- Include a combination of at least 3 of the 4-character types below:Ìý
- Lower case letterÌý
- Upper case letterÌý
- A single digit number (0-9)Ìý
- A special character (e.g.! @ # $ % ^ & * () = - {} [] “ ; ? , /)Ìý
- Please do not use | or :Ìý
We also recommend your password does not contain single words or a recognisable combination of words, letters or numbers or personal details such as your name/initials or date of birth.Ìý
