Peterson is a first-year student from Sebeka, Minn., and a Haakenson second-year student from Albertville, MN.
"I am so honored to be named the SkillsUSA State President for the second year in a row," Peterson said. "My junior year in high school, I fell in love with SkillsUSA, and, fortunately, I was able to pick an amazing college that allowed me to continue participating in the organization."
As the state president, Peterson serves as the primary leader and representative for the State of Minnesota, collaborating with six other dedicated state officers to oversee statewide initiatives and activities. This role involves conducting and presiding over meetings, ensuring smooth communication and coordination among the team. Additionally, the President plays a central role in organizing and hosting the annual State Conference held in April, where approximately 600 members gather to compete in nearly 70 various competitions, fostering engagement and showcasing excellence across the state.
As the state parliamentarian, Haakenson serves as the district authority on parliamentary procedure, advising the president on procedural matters and ensuring meetings follow parliamentary rules.
“I like the community that is formed by the members of SkillsUSA and that SkillsUSA is a student-led organization whose goal is to better the skilled workforce,” Haakenson said.
SkillsUSA Minnesota is an organization that partners students, teachers, and industry together to maintain the skilled workforce of the state and the U.S. The organization’s mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible citizens who respect the dignity and ethics of work.
