David Roth, 1983鈥1986 鈥淰irtually all students lived in small hotels for their first year, organised through the accommodation department at DIHE. I stayed at Mondello House Hotel, in a twin room. Rates were 拢27 a week for DBB 鈥撀燼 three-course dinner, bed and breakfast (cooked on weekends) with meals served to students at tables in the dining room and an honesty bar. There was talk that this was the best small hotel for students and several never moved out during their whole time at DIHE.鈥
Richard Moyse, 1981鈥1984 鈥淲hilst at DIHE I was involved with the Students鈥 Union and in particular DISC or the DI(HE) Social Committee. We arranged the summer and Christmas balls and also the 鈥楤ig Night Out鈥 each Friday evening. We booked countless bands and comedians including Roman Holliday, Jo Boxers, Modern Romance, Pete Green of Fleetwood Mac and the comedian Stan Arnold.鈥
James Air, 1987鈥1989 鈥淒uring my studies at DIHE I lived in student digs in Winton. There were no computers back then, and just a few Word Processors available, so most work was completed by old-fashioned pen and paper. The student bar served pints at just 87p and with bands such as Doctor and the Medics performing, Friday nights were not to be missed.鈥
Gill Powell, 1986 鈥淭he Claremont Clan 鈥 that鈥檚 what we students who lived at the Claremont Hotel on St Michael鈥檚 Road in 1986 called ourselves. There was no student accommodation and so we media students based there聽hung out with folk from other courses 鈥 see photo from our day trip to Poole Harbour.鈥
